It’s Wednesday…and that means it’s Wednesday Gumbo, a mixed up posting of various things. Hope it drives you crazy!
Man Card Alert!
We had a Tenebrae service this past Friday…it was a Good Friday service where we would read scripture, then extinguish a candle and so on until the room was almost dark. At the end, we left in silence. It was a wonderful experience with 3BC. What wasn’t wonderful, though, was going to Hobby Lobby to buy candles for this service. I was the only guy in there…and I was buying candles. It was not a great feeling.
Camino de Santiago de Compostela
I would give anything to go do this. It’s the pilgrimage route from France to Santiago de Compostela, known as The Way of St. James, where the Apostle James is supposedly buried. It is a long walk…it would take a month or two…but I would imagine it would have profound spiritual impact on anyone who walked it. There’s a movie out with Emilio Estevez and Martin Sheen called The Way that is about this pilgrimage route. Maybe…one day.
Yep…I told you I didn’t care for him. Now, in the middle of Miami, a city slam-packed with Hispanics, coaching a team that is trying to attract more Hispanic fans, Guillen has managed to officially chap every Hispanic in the Northern Hemisphere. Guillen stated, “I love Fidel Castro. I respect Fidel Castro, You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years, but that [expletive] is still here.” Well…Guillen returns to Miami to apologize…which is credible…and we learn that he’s been suspended.
I’m sure you’ve heard of Petrino’s problems. If not, go here. But, this begs the question…who would you rather have as a coach? Derek Dooley or Bobby Petrino?
Dooley is doing it right and cleaning up some things in the UT program, but he’s not winning enough.
Petrino is beating everyone (except Alabama and LSU) but his character took a big hit this past week.
And, finally, if your son had to choose between the two, which coach would you want him to play for?
Here’s a video of an interview Rick Warren did with ABC for Easter. He answers questions about politics, same sex marriage, Mitt Romney and the Mormons, and…get this…do dogs go to heaven. The usual land mines.
I met this young man a few weeks ago at the webcast of The Gospel Project, a new curriculum for small groups by Lifeway and our good friend Trevin Wax. Jeff is a poet, and, a few months ago, one of his poems went viral on YouTube.
