I’ve coached youth baseball for years. One of the best pick-off plays we ever used in middle school baseball (and up) is with a runner on 2B. The pitchers wheels quickly and fakes the throw, while the SS and 2B dive at the phantom ball going into centerfield. The centerfielder has to be in the play, too, and run toward the fence after the phantom ball.
We used it to perfection every time we called it. You kinda feel bad for the runner, but you’re really glad to get the out!
In this video, Maryville (TN) College uses the play on Carson-Newman to end the game.
