When I in Awesome Wonder…

worship (1)As we come to worship together this morning, let us all remember that we worship a holy God who has saved us without any conditions from our disobedience.  That, in and of itself, should produce a joyful, committed response.  Indifference and apathy are indicators of a lesser condition.

Jonathan Edwards states,

Who will deny that true religion consists, in a great measure, in vigorous and lively actings of the inclination and will of the soul, or the fervent exercises of the heart? That religion which God requires, and will accept, does not consist in weak, dull, and lifeless, wishes, raising us but a little above a state of indifference.

In response to who God is and what he has done for us, we sing…

O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works thy hand have made;
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed;

And when I think that God his son not sparing,
Sent him to die – I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin:

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home- what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
